The end of the year is already approaching in the festive spirit of Christmas and New Year.
The young people and children are doing very well in both centers in Lomé. Nowadays, SPES
Lomé has forty-eight (48) residents, including twenty-five (25) children in the preschool
center and twenty-two (22) young people in the adolescent center. In addition to this
number, a young boy (a trainee carpenter at the end of his apprenticeship) was welcomed at
the beginning of December for health reasons. The thirty-two (32) young people in families
and in Benin bring the total to eighty (80) children and young people benefiting from SPES
care in December 2025.
Schooling
Classes continue according to the national calendar for our students from kindergarten to high school. As for rehearsals, they also continue at both the primary and middle school levels; funds have been made available to start supervised study sessions for high school students. The first term exams went smoothly, taking place from December 8 to 12, 2025, at the middle school and from December 15 to 19, 2025, at the primary school. Thus, after three months of intensive classes, our students went on Christmas break, which lasts from Tuesday, December 23, 2025, to Sunday, January 3, 2026.
Final registrations have ended at the University of Lomé. Our young high school graduates have completed their enrollment, as have the returning students. We still haven’t heard from AMENOFE Christian, who is undergoing priestly training in Benin, but we hope that everything is going well for him and that he will contact us as soon as possible.
Learning
Our young apprentices are diligent and consistent in their various training workshops and
everything is going well for them.
Health
The psychologist continues her work in both SPES TOGO centers.
Other news
This month of December has been very eventful and much more focused on the various
preparations and organization of the end-of-year celebrations (Christmas in advance with
the children and the management board, Christmas, and New Year’s).
Meetings were organized by the management to assign tasks and actively involve all staff in
the different arrangements.
Throughout this month, the cultural facilitator (Uncle Justin) and the psychologist (Mama
Love) prepared the children for their various performances (Christmas and New Year poems,
skits, dances, and New Year’s greetings) during the early Christmas celebration. It should be
noted that all staff actively contributed to the success of the event.
On December 20, 2025, the early Christmas celebration for all the children was held at the
SPES Lomé children’s center, aimed at bringing joy to the children at the end of the year. The
event was attended by the president and members of the SPES Togo Board, as well as guests
including administrative and traditional authorities, partners such as SOS Children’s Village
(represented by a mother and children), the directors of the schools our children attend,
friends, and our loyal donors. Additionally, the association TOGO LODGE, one of our faithful
donors, partnered with SPES to organize a wonderful party for the children. It was marked
by various performances by the children (Christmas and New Year poems, dances, cantatas
and choreographies by our children and youth, a sketch titled No to Violence and Theft, the
presentation of greetings to the members of the SPES TOGO and International Board) not to
mention the performance of two guest comedians who further entertained the children.
Overall, the celebration was very beautiful. In addition to food and drinks, the children
received gifts from Santa Claus.
Mr. Martin ADOMAYAKPO, former head of the adolescent center, and Mrs. Eugénie
SOSSOU, former Director of the Lomé center, were also invited so that we could honor them
and say goodbye. Unfortunately, Mrs. Eugénie was absent; only Mr. Martin attended.
On December 21, 2025, a delegation from Lomé and the members of the SPES Togo Board of
Directors went to the SPES Kpalimé center to take part in the early Christmas celebration,
which was also well organized by our colleagues in Kpalimé.
The Director of Lomé shared a batch of donations received, with the Kpalimé Center, during
the celebration.
The celebration continued on December 25 and 31 at both SPES Lomé Centers
Weather
A strong heat is spreading over the south of Togo, already signaling the Harmattan in the
month of January.
It is on this note that SPES TOGO wishes a happy and prosperous 2026 to the DOT, to the
godfathers and godmothers, and to all its generous benefactors.
