SPES Lomé started the new year 2026 very well with a total of forty-six (46) residents, including twenty-five (25) children in the early childhood center and twenty-one (21) youth in the adolescent center following the departure of young FANDJREBO Solange for her training. In addition to these forty-six (46) residents, our thirty-three (33) young people living with families, in rented accommodations, and in Benin are added. In total, in this month of January 2026, SPES Lomé took care of a total of eighty (80) children and young people.
Filled with numerous challenges, including the preparation of annual activity and financial reports, an annual action plan, and new projected budgets, the year 2026 promises to be busy and eventful.
The children and young people, carefree about the ongoing issues, are fully enjoying their lives in a family atmosphere and with complete cohesion.
Schooling
Our students returned to their classes on January 5, 2026, after two weeks of vacation, allowing them to fully enjoy the Christmas and New Year celebrations. According to their various schedules, classes are going very well for our learners from kindergarten to high school. In both primary and middle school, rehearsals are also going very well.
During this month, our primary and middle school students received their first-term results, and overall, these results are more or less satisfactory. High school students took their exams for the first semester from January 12 to 16, 2026, and are eagerly awaiting their results. All results will be communicated and made available to sponsors at the end of the first semester of 2026 by the Sponsorship Coordinator.
New measures are being taken following the results of the first trimester to better organize the school supervision of the children. The psychologist, appointed by the Director to develop a school support plan To do this the psychologist and the animator went to the Catholic primary school of Kélégougan, where our children attend, to meet with the Principal and the teachers of our children’s classes to gain a better understanding of their work and behavior at school.
As a result, a team made up of dormitory mothers and uncles has been established to supervise the children in addition to the tutors.
Training in APC (Competency-Based Approach), the current educational system in Togo, is planned for this team to strengthen their skills in supervision techniques. It will take place at the beginning of February 2026.
Learning
Our young apprentices are diligent and consistent in their various training workshops, and everything is going well for them. The three-year apprenticeship contract was signed for the benefit of a young boy, who is undergoing professional training in building plaster and painting, on January 28, 2026, in the presence of his parent, his employer, the Director, and the youth/teen coordinator.
Health
During this month of January, most of our children suffered from malaria. Some were referred to the Jean Jacques Bazin Medical-Social Center in Kégué (Sisters of Mercy Hospital in Kégué, not far from the Center) and others to a Pediatrician. They were examined, treated, and have regained perfect health.
The Psychologist continues her activities at the two SPES TOGO Centers.
