November in Kpalimé

After moments of relaxation, the focus returns to selflessness for a good continuation of the first quarter of the year. The committees are hard at work for the growth and well-being of the children and adolescents at the center, taking into account the right to participate and the best interests of the child.

The young apprentices, miniature adults still living at the center, benefited from workshop visits where they are expressing gratitude after obtaining their CFA. Thus, in coordination with the biological family and Nawomi’s former supervisor, Nawomi began her advanced training internship.

For specific and individualized support for children, the supervisory staff received training on the APC method for primary school, conducted by the psychologist from SPES TOGO.

Seven (7) teenage girls, as part of their spiritual formation, participated in the procession walk of Christ the King of the Universe organized by the diocese of the Catholic Church.

The center had the pleasure of welcoming the Program Department of Compassion International. These were moments of sharing and counseling on various topics (sexuality, juvenile delinquency, drugs, the dreams of young people, and their future…).

The weather is very sunny, and the center is better illuminated with the installation of some solar panels and floodlights.

Schooling section

The report on the activities of the Education-Discipline Commission and the Results Commission during the regular meeting on November 13, 2025, showed that the children are applying themselves better and better. The difficulties lie with the very young children, for whom waking up in the morning is challenging. As for the adolescents, they seem to be more difficult to manage. Occasional strategies are used on a case-by-case basis. The mothers in the adolescent dormitories organize themselves through group and individual exchanges for more commitment and determination. The adolescent girls are more engaged than the adolescent boys.

Outside of tutoring sessions, each mother provides educational support at her level.

At the primary level, most children have made significant progress in writing thanks to remedial lessons for CP and CE classes taught by a seasoned public school teacher who has retired. Coloring activities, which are greatly appreciated by the children, have been extremely helpful. Now, coloring sessions are part of the school activities in the girls’ dormitory. These moments are fulfilling. Even pre-teens participate, jostling each other to join in. This activity takes place at the end of study sessions and is used at the beginning as a motivational stimulus. Coloring helps with concentration and the development of fine motor skills. This initiative was inspired by Anne-Marie and Delphine, who had worked with the children.

Overall, there is progress in writing, reading, and arithmetic. However, there are some children who require more attention. The assigned desk work organized for the attention of junior and senior high school students, which began in October, continues. First-year secondary students of the first cycle

The written assignments organized for middle and high school students, which started in October, continue. First-year secondary students of the first cycle have completed their first assignment and have started the second due to two assignments instituted by the Togolese State Ministry in charge.

The Children’s Results commission supports the Results Commission and the Education and Discipline Commission of the staff during evening study hours. This commission highlighted the capricious behavior of some children taken into account by the Education and Discipline Commission. The second assignment is due to the two assignments instituted by the Togolese State Ministry in charge.

The four book clubs are operational, and the ‘Book Hour’ project started on November 24, 2025. The Results and Education committees have now found a solution for managing photocopies in agreement with the person in charge of the copier. Teenagers now have all of their money available for breakfast.

Rehearsals according to the approved project began this month in the identified subjects, except for French. These classes will start shortly in December 2025.

Learning section

The five (05) graduates of the CFA exams, during their thank-you period at their employers’ places, were visited by the management staff. Taking advantage of this setting, arrangements were made with her employer.

Young people outside the center

One young girl is pursuing her pharmacy sales training at the Otoyi Consolidated Professional Training Institute (IFP-OC) in Kpalimé. Two others registered online at the University of Lomé (UL) after a slight delay.

All the young people have received their allowance for the month of November via Tmoney or Flooz. Those in Kpalimé collected their allowance in person. The transfer of funds from ‘Education Package’ was also made via Tmoney/FLOOZ to the students according to their needs.

Health section

There have been a few malaria cases, most of which were not serious. Mosquito nets have been redistributed in the dormitories to reduce the risk of infection, in addition to regular health monitoring through the center’s small pharmacy.

Visits

The SPES KPALIME center welcomed visitors and received in-kind and cash donations.

A delegation from the NGO ‘Compassion International TOGO,’ working in the field of protection and support for vulnerable children in Togo, visited the center on November 26, 2025. This was the Program Department of the NGO on their annual retreat in Kpalimé. A total of thirty (30) members spent about three (3) hours with the children and youth. Three groups were formed: adolescents, teenage girls, and young children. For the first two groups, exchanges and discussions focused on topics such as sexuality, drugs and their consequences, and the dreams of adolescents. For the young children, games were used to teach them about the importance of valuing life and the practice of taking care of their own belongings as well as those of others. The atmosphere was very friendly.

Mr. Patrice SANVALE, a teacher at Lycée ISSAT in France, was welcomed as part of his search for an internship for his students for the year 2026, more precisely in October.

Some young people who left the center spent some time together with their younger brothers and sisters during this November 2025.

Other news

The management staff held its regular meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2025. During this meeting, topics discussed included evaluating the welcoming of guests, reviewing the activities of the committees, and planning the organization of the end-of-year festivities. This meeting also encouraged the mothers of the girls’ and boys’ dormitories to ensure nap times are observed, as the children, hardly after dinner, are too tired to review even a little bit.

From Tuesday, November 18 to Thursday, November 20, 2025, a training on the Fundamentals of the CBA (Competency-Based Approach) was conducted for the management team by the Psychologist of SPES TOGO. The goal is to help the mothers take ownership of the contents of this new method, to understand why this method is used, in order to better assist children in acquiring: ‘know-how, skills, and interpersonal abilities.’

This training was of great importance as it allowed us to discover certain specific problems of some children. Participation was very active. These are experiences to be continued for new topics. The next topic will focus on the management of bedwetting cases at the center, which is an emergency. Indeed, there are many cases of bedwetting. Some adolescents from middle school are among them. In total, there are 17 children with bedwetting, including six adolescents (both genders), and eleven in the dormitories of the younger boys. Of this group, two were not urinating when they arrived at the center. This training on the issue of bedwetting will be conducted as an educational talk so that mothers can take emotional attachment to heart in the lives of the children.

On Monday, November 24, 2025, the director attended a training workshop organized by the CNDH (National Convention on Human Rights) at the Cristal Hotel in Kpalimé. The workshop focused on the dissemination of the manual on the complaint management mechanism for children.

The center is now better lit with the installation of six streetlights and six solar floodlights in strategic corners of the center. During power cuts and the current breakdown of the generator, the center is no longer in complete darkness. It is possible to consider a solar system for the generator to reduce repeated outages related to electricity. Currently, the generator coil is damaged, and the technician is working on rewinding it.

To teach children to take care of their living environment, the dormitories are equipped with trash bins. In the center’s courtyard, six bins are now placed in strategic corners.

The chicken coop has been set up according to the instructions of a professional in the field of livestock farming. The enclosure for raising goats has been arranged. The chicks (50) and the goats (at least three females and one male) are ordered for December 2025.

The educational team of the administration held its weekly planning meetings every Friday.

Garden and farming

The gardening project activities at the center are proceeding normally. The livestock activities have resumed in a professional manner. A team of three people has been set up for this activity. This team was trained by a professional on November 24 and 25. Afterwards, they conducted a field visit to two livestock centers. Everything needed to disinfect the chicken coop is being implemented. Other expressed needs are under review.

The garden:

The garden is the pride of the center due to its diversity and beauty. This variety allows okra and tomatoes to be harvested every three days. Spinach is plentiful for the kitchen. Six (06) plots of Adémé (Jute mallow) are currently growing.

The new lettuce seed nurseries have germinated well and have been transplanted onto six (08) plots. The beet plants (on 4 plots) are regularly weeded, watered, and monitored by the gardener to ensure their rapid growth. All of this is an asset given the current climate.

Farming:

The measures taken by the Projects and Donations Committee made it possible to set up a team of three people. An activity schedule has been developed and is currently being carried out. The livestock area has been arranged according to hygiene rules to protect the chicks. Everything is underway to bring the poultry house back to life.

Weather

The weather was very hot. Towards the end of November, some rain caused temperatures to drop. Currently, it is hot. However, the landscape has regained some of its greenery.
